2000 - The Galileo Ferraris Competition

Galileo Ferraris was a renowned inventor from Piedmont, whose work lay at the basis of patents and the industrial exploitation of the induction motor. In 2000, I3P launched an innovative business plan competition which it decided to name in honour and memory of the inventor. The competition was designed to help sift through and assess the growing number of applications for business incubation and scout for innovative ideas across the local territory.

17/2 MEETING with THE INCUBATED ENTERPRISES: A first Appraisal.
The meeting brought together representatives from I3P's consortium members, tenant enterprises, and the winners of the Galileo Ferraris Competition at the Politecnico di Torino, to take stock of and discuss the first-year results achieved by the Incubator. At this time, an international network began to be developed to the benefit of the tenant enterprises, uniting important cities from around Europe, including Glasgow, Birmingham, Compiègne, Sophia Antipolis, Helsinki, Trondheim, Stockholm, Dortmund, Twente, Aachen, Barcelona, Bologna and Milan.

2/3 THE “HI-TECH: FROM THE BUSINESS PLAN TO VENTURE CAPITAL. THE FLEXTEL CASE” CONFERENCE.
Organised in partnership with Associazione Torino Finanza, the conference was held at the Politecnico di Torino. The focus placed on Flextel was to highlight how technical know-how and management capacity can represent an important opportunity for investment, thanks to the backing of a venture capitalist, able to transform a bright idea into a competitive enterprise.

27/6 The first CONVENTION of ITALIAN UNIVERSITY ENTERPRISE INCUBATORS is held
Promoted by I3P and held at the Politecnico di Torino, the aim of the convention was to encourage the exchange of knowledge, take a closer look at the strategies and actions pursued by each incubator or university to promote entrepreneurship, and identify possible opportunities for future partnerships. The convention was attended by representatives of the Acceleratore di Impresa di Bovisa of the Politecnico di Milano, the University of Bologna, the University of Genova, the University “Federico II” of Naples, the Scuola Superiore di Studi Universitari e Perfezionamento of Pisa, and ENEA of Bologna.

November 2000 - Sponsorship Deal Signed with Hewlett-Packard Philanthropy
The Open Space Laboratory sponsored by “HP Entrepreneurship in Technology" was officially opened by the rector of the Politecnico di Torino, Prof. Zich, Mr Aliperti, chairman of HP Italia, and Mr Zingale, head of the project. Hewlett-Packard Philanthropy was also the sponsor for a series of encounters between twelve European universities committed to promoting entrepreneurship. The goal was to benchmark business training initiatives designed to promote the creation of new companies.

16/11 INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP
“National policies and the legislative framework for the start up of innovative enterprises from the research system.”
