At a time when analyzing and improving energy consumption habits is becoming increasingly important for households and businesses, the renewable energy community CER Svea Solar ETS is strengthening its digital infrastructure through a partnership with Midori Connect, an innovative Italian company which grew in I3P and today specializes in advanced energy monitoring systems

CER Svea Solar ETS, established as a Third Sector Entity registered in the National Single Register of the Third Sector (RUNTS), has been active since 2004 and operates throughout Italy with hundreds of members and new installations every month. The partnership with Midori Connect was launched a year ago and is now central to CER’s growth, which includes approximately 400 operational configurations throughout Italy and more than 600 users, including producers and consumers.

The technology of the young company

Midori Connect has built an "energy intelligence" platform that connects energy data with end customers. Leveraging its extensive experience collaborating with leading national utilities, Midori Connect develops advanced home energy management services based on patented NIML technology.

This expertise, which now extends to the monitoring of photovoltaic systems and Renewable Energy Communities (CER in Italian language), enables Midori Connect to facilitate more transparent and informed energy-sharing models, placing energy data at the heart of decision-making and value creation for end users.

At the heart of the partnership with CER Svea Solar ETS is NED, Midori Connect’s energy monitoring system, which measures energy production and consumption in real time in the homes where it is installed. The collected data is then processed by CER Svea Solar ETS’s proprietary platform, which provides clear and immediately actionable information on:

  • the energy made available by producers for sharing;
  • the energy already consumed and the energy still available for use;
  • an estimate of the accumulated incentives and the CO₂ emissions avoided.

In order to share energy, producers and consumers must be part of the same configuration: a geographic area in which at least one producer and one consumer are members of the same renewable energy community.

A solution for responsible consumption

Homeowners who install solar panels with Svea Solar, a CER-promoting company and multinational corporation active across Europe in providing renewable energy solutions, receive the NED device free of charge. Consumers, on the other hand, can lease it for three years and then purchase it at no additional cost, thereby becoming its owners.

Using NED has allowed us to overcome one of the main limitations of CERs: the total lack of visibility”, explained Clara Saponaro, Project Manager of CER Svea Solar ETS. “Without our platform, members would only know how much energy they’ve shared and how much premium tariff they’ve accumulated once a year, with the annual settlement by the Energy Services Manager. We’re turning this model on its head: thanks to NED’s real-time data, we immediately show how much energy is available and how much has already been shared, month by month. This allows our members to act in an informed and truly active way.

In addition to supporting the operation of the CER, NED allows each household to view the energy consumption of individual appliances - thanks to the NILM technology that sets the service apart - and receive personalized recommendations for reducing waste and learning in advance the best way to schedule appliances to make the most of the renewable energy produced by the CER. A true 24/7 energy coach, useful even for those without a photovoltaic system, which is enabled by a single device for the entire home.

Energy communities represent a great opportunity, but they can only truly function if supported by clear and accessible data”, commented Christian Camarda, CEO of Midori Connect. “Through this partnership, we are putting our NILM technology to work for a more participatory and intelligent energy model, giving producers and consumers the tools to effectively understand and monitor shared energy.”
