The final General Conference of the project named FAIR – Future Artificial Intelligence Research, funded by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and dedicated to the development of next-generation Artificial Intelligence, will take place in Rome from December 10 to 12, 2025.
The event will be spread over three days to present the results of three years of activity, focusing both on scientists and their discoveries and on companies and their technology transfer projects. It will also host institutions and policy makers who contribute daily to shaping the reality and future prospects of Italian artificial intelligence.
The FAIR project
The FAIR Foundation, a private non-profit organization, was created in 2022 to coordinate Italy's largest AI research program, unique in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), structured around a “Hub & Spoke” model that brought together research institutions, universities, and businesses with the aim of advancing AI research and creating advanced, reliable, sustainable, and fully human-centered technologies.
The project, launched in January 2023, will come to an end in early 2026 and will be concluded at the General Conference, bringing together over 200 scientists, researchers, and doctoral students from all over Italy to present the results achieved in recent years.
Among the numerous activities planned and carried out during the project is the FAIR Acceleration Program 2025, an initiative promoted by the FAIR Foundation and implemented by the Innovative Companies Incubator of Politecnico di Torino (I3P). The program aimed to provide structured support to a selection of technological projects, born from academic research activities, to catalyze their evolution into young companies at the forefront of AI applications.
The program, now in its first edition, has provided a personalized path for each project, with acceleration activities tailored to their respective needs, sectors of reference, specific team requirements, and ideal target markets. The program will culminate in the presentation of the supported projects, in the form of investor pitches, on the afternoon of Thursday, December 11, during the second day of the FAIR General Conference.
The presentation of the business projects supported by the FAIR Acceleration Program 2025 is open to investors and stakeholders in the AI sector who are interested in learning more about them. To request free accreditation and attend the meeting on December 11, it is possible to write to Negar Mokarram Dorri, Business Consultant & International Programs Project Manager at I3P, at mokarram@i3p.it.
The programme of the General Conference
The overall event will open on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Precise House Mantegna Congress Center in via Andrea Mantegna 130, Rome, with an inaugural session broadcast live on ANSA.it, dedicated to the role of artificial intelligence in the future of the country. The opening session will feature speeches by representatives from the institutional, academic, and technological innovation worlds.
The second day of Thursday 11 December will be entirely dedicated to the relationship between research and industry and will offer a privileged space for discussion with the manufacturing world. The morning will begin with an Industry Panel, which will see the participation of industry leaders and representatives of the main trade associations. The programme of the day will feature the results of the projects developed by the companies that participated in the FAIR cascade calls for proposals and the investor pitches of the FAIR Acceleration Program 2025.
The third and final day on Friday 12 December will begin with a welcome address by Andrea Lenzi, President of the National Research Council (CNR), and will continue with keynote speeches and thematic panels enriched by the experiences of Italian and international guests, concluding in the early afternoon.
The topics at the center of the event
The conference's extensive and varied scientific programme reflects the wealth of activities carried out within FAIR. The thematic sessions, which will take place in parallel over the three days of the conference, will explore both the fundamental and applied areas of AI, ranging from multimodality to computer vision, from advanced machine learning to generative models and neuro-symbolic systems.
A significant part will be dedicated to application projects, from AI for health, robotics, and sustainable mobility to technologies for education and human-machine interaction, while other sessions will address issues of ethics, regulation, and governance, as well as methodologies for making AI systems more energy- and environmentally-efficient. Many of the research groups involved will present results, platforms, and prototypes developed as part of the FAIR project, showcasing the variety of approaches and methods explored over the three-year period.
Special attention will be given to young researchers and doctoral students, who will be the protagonists of the poster sessions that will take place during the conference. The National Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence and the young scholars involved in FAIR will present their latest results, sharing innovative projects and development prospects. These opportunities for discussion are a key element of the conference and underscore the importance of advanced training and the growth of new generations of experts on the Italian and international scene.
