ALBA Robot, Italian innovative start-up founded in 2019 by Andrea Bertaia and Giacomo Moiso, has announced the closing of a new €4.985 million investment round aimed at accelerating growth and consolidating its position as a leader in the autonomous mobility sector for pedestrian environments.
With this funding, which follows an initial seed investment round of €2.6 million completed in 2023 by the Cysero EuVECA Fund managed by AVM SGR, ALBA Robot will continue its evolution from technology platform to mobility provider, expanding its services dedicated to the autonomous movement of people, objects, and data.
ALBA Robot is a micro-mobility platform that transforms the transport of people within facilities using fleets of autonomous vehicles. The young company was incubated at I3P, the Innovative Companies Incubator of Politecnico di Torino, from 2020 until 2023, when it was awarded the title of “Start-up of the Year 2023” by the incubator in recognition of the results achieved with its development of innovative technology with a high social impact.
The future of the start-up
Over the last 18 months, ALBA Robot has completed 11 paid pilot projects, two of which have been transformed into commercial services, with another two expected by the end of the year. After validating the technology and operating model at several major international airports, the company will now extend its testing to other facilities and usage scenarios, including outdoor spaces. The 2026 roadmap also includes:
- the introduction of a new generation of intelligent robots, developed in collaboration with leading Italian design studios;
- the launch of premium services dedicated to passengers and advanced platforms for sharing and enhancing the data collected by the sensor network.
On the international front, ALBA Robot is strengthening its presence in the United States: alongside its operational base at Newlab Detroit, in recent months the company has established its own C-Corp in Delaware, a strategic step to accelerate its entry into the North American market. Negotiations are already underway for new projects and to start the first production of robots made in the USA.
The investors' support
“This investment marks the beginning of a new phase of growth. Starting with airports, we aim to expand our services and become the ‘Waymo of pedestrian areas’,” said Andrea Bertaia, CEO & Co-Founder of ALBA Robot. “A heartfelt thank you to Giovanna Dossena, Luca Todesco, and Edoardo Bosio of AVM Gestioni, Mario Alparone of Finpiemonte and Piemonte Next, and the entire CDP Venture Capital team, whose support goes far beyond the financial.”
“We are proud to have invested in ALBA Robot, renewing our confidence in the team and the potential of their technology,” said Alessandro Scortecci, Chief Direct Investments at CDP Venture Capital. “We strongly believe that, thanks to the support for their international expansion and the development of new services, ALBA Robot can continue to perfect cutting-edge solutions, integrating robotics and artificial intelligence to make a concrete contribution to improving the quality of life of people with reduced mobility.”
"We are particularly grateful to be accompanying the growth of ALBA Robot, a company that exemplifies the innovative capacity of our region", commented Mario Alparone, General Manager of Finpiemonte. "Through the investment made via the Piemonte Next fund and thanks to the strategic role of regional instruments co-financed by the ERDF programs, Finpiemonte has believed from the outset in the vision of a project that combines technology, inclusion, and social impact. ALBA Robot's journey demonstrates how collaboration between the public and private sectors can generate tangible value, fostering the creation of cutting-edge solutions in the field of autonomous and assisted mobility,"
