The Turin-based company BeonD, founded in 2013 as a spin-off of Politecnico di Torino and which completed its incubation path in I3P in 2018, has embarked on a new phase of growth with the entry of CSI S.p.A., a company belonging to the IMQ Group, into its share capital. The operation marks a strategic step towards consolidating BeonD as an Italian center of excellence in advanced engineering for electric mobility, strengthening its technological and industrial positioning in a rapidly expanding market.
Prior to the transaction, BeonD's capital was held by the three founders - engineer Andrea Airale, engineer Alessandro Ferraris, and professor Massimiliana Carello - together with partners UFI Filters, Sabelt, and engineer Paolo Massai.
Now, with the sale of the majority stake to CSI, Airale and Ferraris will continue to lead the company, pursuing their entrepreneurial and technological journey in a new phase of expansion, in synergy with the IMQ Group.
“I have known Andrea and Alessandro since 2008. They were among the founders of Team H2politO, they were my bachelor's and master's thesis students, and my doctoral students,” said Massimiliana Carello, Founder of BeonD and Associate Professor at Politecnico di Torino. "Together, we first created the Innovative Electric and Hybrid Vehicles (IEHV) research group and then founded BeonD. We have always been a bit like ‘crazy dreamers’. The acquisition of CSI is the result of BeonD's high level of expertise: started as a spin-off, it represents an important success for me, confirming the importance of technology transfer between universities and companies. This great achievement was made possible thanks to the work not only of Andrea and Alessandro, but also of all BeonD's employees."
“BeonD's success is further recognition of the path of excellence and innovation undertaken by the Polytechnic, aimed at enhancing skills and promoting the development of entrepreneurial abilities,” said Giuliana Mattiazzo, Vice Rector for Scientific and Technological Innovation at Politecnico di Torino. "University spin-offs are among the most significant results that a university can achieve, both in terms of employment and industrial impact. However, it is well known how complex and challenging it is to accompany a spin-off from its initial phase to full maturity: it requires vision, resources, and a favorable ecosystem. BeonD demonstrates that when research and industry collaborate synergistically, it is possible to generate concrete value for the territory, strengthening the attractiveness and international competitiveness of the entire system."
Giuseppe Scellato, President of I3P, commented: “We are proud of BeonD's significant success, which reflects the capabilities of the entrepreneurial team and represents an example of how scientific and technological expertise originating in academia can be translated into innovative products and services with a tangible industrial impact. We are confident that this transaction will give the IMQ group a lasting competitive advantage in a rapidly growing technology sector.”
