Startup

The start-up that won the 2019 Ancalau Prize is called ReVideo and is a digital vision recovery therapy through self-repair and regeneration of areas damaged by glaucoma and maculopathy.

ReVideo is the winner of the Ancalau Prize 2019 and consists of a digital therapy to restore sight through self-repair and regeneration of areas damaged by glaucoma and maculopathies. It was presented on Sunday 23 June at Bosia in Alta Langa by Alma De Luca and Francesca Castrignanó, a Biomedical Engineering student at the Politecnico di Torino. The jury, chaired by Oscar Farinetti and comprising, among others, Giorgetto Giugiaro and Teo Musso, also awarded the prize to Pax, a drone capable of detecting illegal dumps by itself, designed by three young high school students from Alba, Samuele Marro, Alberto Ricatto and Mattia Scagliola.

THE AWARD

'Ancalau' is a word from the Alta Langa dialect that has no direct translation into Italian. It indicates someone who overcomes shyness, someone who dares. In short, someone who puts aside natural reluctance and risks, innovates, takes initiative. The Ancalau is the spirit of the people from Alta Langa, where a tradition is still alive in the small village of Bosia, rooted in the culture and events of a population that in the 17th century saw their village, their possessions, their loved ones, their homes, the church and the castle swept away by a huge landslide and knew how to start over, rebuilding their village with stubbornness and sacrifice. This may be the origin of the fame of the 'Ancalau di Bosia', a small municipality that over time has been the birthplace of a surprising number of inventors and innovators.

On Sunday 23 June 2019, Bosia hosted the fifth edition of the Ancalau 'Start Up Giovani' Award, organised from the outset in close collaboration with Eataly and supported by Banca d'Alba and Egea with the media-partnership of the daily newspaper La Stampa and Idea magazine.

The Ancalau Award aims to encourage the creative spirit of young people together with their ability to devise projects that can be developed on an entrepreneurial basis, and also wants to contribute in various forms (tutoring and assistance) to their realisation. The Prize consists of a sum of €10,000 awarded to the owner of the winning project for the purpose of financing the start-up.
