From December 10 to 12, 2025, the Precise House Hotel Mantegna in Rome hosted the General Conference of the project FAIR – Future Artificial Intelligence Research, funded by PNRR funds and dedicated to the development of next-generation AI.
The Italian scientific community gathered for three days with the aim of sharing the results at the end of the project, which began in January 2023. The event offered a scientific-educational conference focusing on researchers and their discoveries, as well as companies and their technology transfer projects, also hosting institutions and policy makers who contribute every day to shaping the reality and future prospects of Italian artificial intelligence.
Following introductions by Giuseppe De Pietro, President of the FAIR Foundation, and Marta Rapallini, Program Manager of the FAIR Foundation, the conference opened on December 10 with an inaugural session entitled “AI for the future of Italy”, broadcast live online by the national news agency ANSA and hosted by journalist Alessio Jacona.
The second day of December 11 focused on the relationship between artificial intelligence research and businesses. During the event, the projects developed by 26 companies that benefited from FAIR technology transfer calls for proposals (€11.8 million distributed to companies throughout Italy) were presented, along with the results of the FAIR Acceleration Program 2025, an initiative created to promote spin-off ideas from FAIR researchers and implemented in collaboration with I3P, the Innovative Companies Incubator of Politecnico di Torino, with the presentation of the final investor pitches for the projects.
With an introduction by Marta Rapallini, the opening remarks by Martina Fiorin, Senior Consultant & Acceleration Programs Project Manager at I3P, and the moderation by Negar Mokarram Dorri, Business Consultant & International Programs Project Manager at I3P, the presentation of the results of the FAIR Acceleration Program 2025 provided visibility on the national conference stage for the six technological and entrepreneurial projects supported by the program:
- ABEL, represented by Lorenzo Cominelli;
- AISense, represented by Ciro Mennella;
- FIBERPICK, represented by Paolo Avesani;
- MASAI, represented by Patrizio Bellan;
- MOUSEION, represented by Giulio Rossi;
- RAYS, represented by Davide Sgambato.
During the Investor Pitches, the teams selected and supported in the acceleration program presented their new AI-based solutions to investors and industry stakeholders, outlining their ideas, development trajectories, and possible market applications: a key step in transforming research results into entrepreneurial growth, validation, and concrete market impact.
The wealth of solutions that emerged from the projects presented at the Rome conference as a whole demonstrated the creative, cross-cutting, and strategic use of AI to address contemporary challenges in various fields. The healthcare sector was particularly prominent, with decision support systems ranging from drug prescriptions to assisted diagnosis of complex diseases and optimization of hospital processes. In terms of sustainability and the environment, artificial intelligence is now used for integrated optimization in agrivoltaic systems, adaptive air quality control, and logistics and waste management.
The focus also extends to security and logistics solutions, which include advanced systems for drones and autonomous rovers for monitoring and exploration, as well as the implementation of predictive maintenance in industry. There are also projects dedicated to inclusion and accessibility, with the development of assisted navigation systems for people with visual impairments, but there are also applications for tourism, human resources, and workplace safety.
