Meet in Italy for Life Sciences Startup Breeding is an initiative dedicated to business ideas and start-ups active in the Life Sciences sector. The finalists selected in its call for applications benefit from a tailor-made entrepreneurial path, thematic in-depth analysis and coaching sessions with experts in the sector to refine their approach to business and the communication of their innovative value.

Organised and managed by the Alisei Cluster, Meet in Italy for Life Sciences (MIT4LS) has always been a welcoming home for start-ups, as witnessed by the participation of over 750 young innovative companies in the eight previous editions of the initiative. To best support them, specific initiatives for training and business development have been organised from the 2016 edition onwards, and have become a key component of MIT4LS. More than 370 applications were collected, with 125 start-ups benefiting from training sessions and presentations, involving more than 200 investors and corporate representatives.

The new edition of the call

Startup Breeding 2023 is supported by a number of investment funds and industry players and will provide expertise, tools and networking to increase and develop the full business potential of start-ups that register for the initiative.

The young innovative companies selected at the end of the call will start a tailor-made entrepreneurial journey, which will end on October 31st, 2023 with a pitch in front of international investors and potential business partners. In addition, at the end of the event, a jury of experts will award the title for the most innovative proposal of MIT4LS 2023 and the special prizes offered by the network of partner institutions, including the Incubator of Politecnico di Torino (I3P), which as an award partner of the initiative will offer a 12-month support programme for start-ups.

The bootcamp is dedicated to innovative Life Sciences business ideas and start-ups operating in the following fields:

  • medical devices;
  • digital health;
  • pharmaceuticals;
  • related supply chains.

There are no restrictions of geographical origin for the projects, while the proposed solutions must have a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) from 3 to 5. The selection of proposals will be made by the Evaluation Committee based on the following criteria:

  • experience and skills of the team;
  • description of the proposed solution and related context (in terms of clarity and technical-scientific soundness);
  • market potential;
  • marketing strategy and description of the competitive landscape;
  • revenue stream and financial plan credibility;
  • quality of the attached pitch.

All application materials must be submitted in English language by 5 PM (CEST) on July 31st, 2023. The documents to consult and fill out in order to participate in the call are available on its official webpage, as well as further information on the rules of the initiative and contact details.
